Pentatonic Woodwinds Ensemble Agreement

Our Purpose

We come together to:

  • Grow as musicians
  • Prepare performances we are proud of
  • Support each other through focused and respectful collaboration
  • Have fun!

This ensemble works best when everyone contributes equally in preparation, attention, and musical effort.

Our Mission

The Pentatonic Woodwinds was formed in September 2024 with two missions: to share an appreciation for woodwinds in the Chinese community and to promote Chinese music and culture in the Omaha Metro area. This quintet, consisting of a flute, an oboe, and three clarinets, is dedicated to both arrangements of traditional Chinese music and modern compositions inspired by Chinese culture.

Our Commitment

  • We attend rehearsals consistently and arrive on time
  • If we must miss rehearsal, we notify the group in advance
  • We practice difficult passages between rehearsals so group time is productive
  • Improvement matters more than perfection

Preparation Culture

Before each rehearsal, we aim to:

  • Practice difficult sections carefully and slowly
  • Mark music with questions or problem spots
  • Bring instrument, music, pencil, reeds, tuner, and other necessary materials
  • Arrive ready to begin at the scheduled start time

Rehearsal Culture

During rehearsal, we agree to:

  • Give full attention when someone is playing or speaking
  • Keep phones away unless needed for musical purposes
  • Listen openly and respectfully when others receive feedback
  • Offer suggestions constructively
  • Mistakes are part of learning-no laughing at others

Shared Leadership

This ensemble includes:

  • Organizer – With feedbacks from all ensemble members, prepares music and performance schedule
  • Captain – Helps lead warm-ups, tuning, and rehearsal flow

We agree to respect both roles and support each other in maintaining a focused and positive rehearsal environment

Performances

When we perform:

  • We represent ourselves and our families with professionalism
  • We prepare thoroughly
  • We support each other on stage

If Challenges Arise

If someone is repeatedly unprepared or unfocused, we will first address it respectfully through conversation.
The goal is always improvement and growth.
